Satisfying explanation for D; Only focus on the Square rolling around from top right to top left, and then realize it's going counter clock wise.

It took me last night- full night of sleep- and someone’s comment below that I accidentally gave a thumbs down to.

But I finally see it clearly!

First start from the left with the box that has the red. I don’t know why I was going from the very right box to the left. So start from the very left box. The top half of the line only goes 45 degrees to the left (counterclockwise) to start each box.

The bottom half of the line goes to the left 90 degrees (counterclockwise) and since it passes through the red box it then turns it black. They both happen to go to the left because they are both going in that direction but don’t really rotate the same direction.

Also what’s interesting is that the bottom line that goes 90 degrees will turn the red to black but when it goes through the top box nothing happens so it seems the top box has magical powers and will never chance colors like the bottom box. This problem definitely changed the neurotransmitters in my brain!

But why does it turn back to red again? Your explanation checks out but the colour changing makes no sense to me.

There can be two explanations for the color change in the red square:

A. colored cube goes black, black, red, red, black, black, red, red (just so happened that first time red appeared, it was the final time in that cycle)

B. It changes between red and black each time a line segment passes it.

It's also important to note that there are no other options, apart from 'D', where all other patterns are correct. The lines and the blank square patterns are more set in stone, than the red square pattern. Therefore, even if the red square were to change color randomly, 'D' would continue to be the correct option.

It took a second to recognize the pattern. It was fun. Would recommend
