A lot of people are saying count the triangles: You can also count the lines in each box. Boxes that have an X in them are two lines overlapping. From this, it's just addition: 3+3=6, 4+3= 7, the last one is 3+1=4.
I did have to use the hint for this one though, it is definitely on the harder side of things.

Add the amount of formed triangles from the first two in order to get the number of formed triangles in the third. Either that or I just got lucky.
